I'm only 3.
But I got this!
Founded in 2004 by veteran teacher, Sheila E. Coplin, William Thomas Academy believes in giving children a second chance.  Students  from other schools have accomplished the amazing and have excelled academically.

Since 2007, 98% of William Thomas graduates attend college, while 2% join the workforce or military.  80% of our student body are African American males.

Tuition only covers 50% of our costs and assistance is given to many low-income families.

William Thomas Academy is a small school doing great things!  We need your help in keeping our success rate high.  Funds are needed for books, teacher and classroom supplies, technology equipments,  and so on.

***Success Stories***

My son attended one of Sumter’s public high schools.  I had to constantly go to the school to have a meeting with the principal concerning his behavior.  He eventually got with the wrong crowd and got into a “hazing” incident because of his action.  He was expelled pending a hearing, which in turn, sent him to an alternative school.  This was not the vision I had for my son.

I enrolled my son into William Thomas Academy.  Although he did not start off great, his grades were great.  Eventually his conduct improved and he was excelling academically.  If he had stayed in the public school, he would have gotten into more trouble.  WTA played a huge part in my son’s life and I am still witnessing the fruit of his labor.  He is soon to graduate from Central Carolina Technical College and is eager to further his education.

William Thomas Academy has helped me in so many ways. It was a time when I went through a troubling situation and when the school I was attending turned me down, there was William Thomas Academy there to accept me. I had all I needed in a school there. At WTA, I was in a calm, humble, and safe environment. I had people there that cared about not only me but also where I was heading. Ms.Coplin made absolutely sure that by graduation that she had a post-secondary institution's name to read for every student. She made sure that we were ready for college, academically and maturity wise. She showed not only me but others that she cared. William Thomas also provided me with a chance to play sports and an opportunity to excel at a higher level than the one I was provided in public school. Altogether William Thomas has been so beneficial to me. Looking back on the path I was headed down, I thank God everyday that there was William Thomas Academy to lead me down the path that not only The Lord had set for me but also the road to success.

As a youth, I struggled when it came to making good decisions. In public school, I was the type of kid who really didn't have to study or spend a lot of time on school work. Therefore, I was left with a lot of free time. Like most kids who get bored, I tend to find stuff to entertain me and because of this, I was headed down a destructive path. When I came to WTA, Mrs. Coplin and the rest of the faculty showed interest in my future and helped me to make better decisions. Not only do they teach, WTA also teaches students important life values.

I just want to thank you for everything you have done. If it wasn't for you guys I would've failed my senior year. Thanks to WTA, I didn't! You took me in and helped me study. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm pretty sure my mom would also, because you helped her son make it in life.

WTA is truly a blessing!

To Whom It May Concern:

Our Great-grandson entered William Thomas Academy at the age of four, without any school experience. Our child actually did not know anything but the  "now I know my ABC'S” song. We spoke with Ms. Coplin, asking if she would be willing to work with him and she said yes. Now at the tender age of seven and in the second grade he is reading, writing and making A's in math. William Thomas Academy has truly been a blessing to my family and we believe that if our only choice had been a public school, our Great-grandson would have been lost in the larger classroom setting. We highly recommend this school because it provides hope to students and their families.

Sincerely,
Carl & Rita Holmes

Dear William Thomas Academy

Please accept my sincere thanks for the time and opportunity that was afforded to Elias during his tenure at WTA.  WE greatly appreciated your attention in helping him to reach his educational goals.  The support and guidance that was bestowed upon him was no less than excellent and served to reinforce his desire to further his academic career.

I am confident that the instructions provided from your professional team of educators will continue to deliver students with the tools that are required for academic success.  Thank you again for your commitment to the students you serve.  It is because of your academy’s determination to have every student succeed that Elias received and admission into college.  Again, Elias and I convey our sincere thanks to you for your valuable assistance.

Sincerely,
Roslyn Sanders
